SHARDS SOLO SHOW HET ARCHIEF ARTSPACE ROTTERDAM 2025 Curated by Herman Lamers
SHARDS features the former occupant of The Archive Artspace: Stadsarchief Rotterdam. Artist Stephan Keppel stayed in the Rotterdam home of artist/curator Herman Lamers in 2024 and made a series of prints about the city.
In SHARDS, the architecture of Het Archief plays an important role, with light boxes that follow all the walls like a line. Keppel transformed these light boxes into a cinematic line of light, reminiscent of microfiche – commonly used in archives – and exposed film reels. Keppel’s set reads like a “frieze” that follows the shape of the exhibition space. In architecture, a “frieze” is a term for any elaborate, narrative representation of people, mythological figures or animals within a clear framework.
On view every Saturday and Sunday from 1 p.m. – 5 p.m. through Feb. 2, 2025.
